Staffy Training Basics

As with almost all dogs, make sure your staffy pup stays with his mother until at least eight weeks of age. This is important to ensure that they get the canine socialization training that only being in a litter of other pups provides at that young age.

It is also important to continue to maintain that socialization as often as possible. As the breed is a terrier with bulldog influences, they can occasionally display agression towards other dogs. Regular socialising keeps that to a minimum.

Avoid attempting to train your Staffy to be a guard dog. They can look very manacing and they are a born fighter but their natural affinity for people will reduce their guard dog effectiveness. Staffordshire Terriers make fantastic competitive agility dogs because of their high energy and power.
